Switch It Off Then Back On Again

The standard advice from many a Helpdesk – to switch your device off and than back on again holds significant relevance in the Covid-19 lockdown. After all isn’t that exactly what the government is trying to do. When all has failed the reboot sequence is the final resort and we are desperately close to the reboot as things so far have fully worked and we can’t afford to continually mess about.

The science advisers seem to have shifted away giving the government advice and switched to briefing the press with their thoughts that may or may not coincide with the government. Seems a bit of a glory route, maybe there is a Nobel prize tucked in there somewhere. But the result derives the the Government risk rate. This originally (March 2020) was a series of numbers 1 – 5 where 1 is low and 5 is a high risk and a complete lockdown. Unfortunately for anyone involved in the forces or have watched a thriller this numbering system is the opposite way round to the Def-Con ratings where Def-Con 1 is the high level warning. Maybe this has confused a swath of the population so the government morphed the warning levels into of all things – the tiers of a cake. Ironically this time the highest warning level is the top layer the cake – where you get all the icing and the candles.

This confusion must have led a great chunk of the population to behave in a counter intuitive fashion. The restrictions merely set a challenge for the less intelligent. Let’s have a party, massive wedding, a charge to the beach and flights to anywhere despite the dynamics where local lockdowns change everything and then we have endless bleats to be rescued. Lockdowns and curfews are met with let’s a have pre-lockdown party, which beggars belief.

But looming over all this is the apparent North South Divide in the UK . With true irony the government have devised a colour scheme which contradicts previous colour schemes. We normally associate blue with Tories, red with Labour and green with ….. the Green Party. The general election showed how many northern constituencies had switched from blue from red. Green is also associated with feeling ‘off colour’. The confusion now arises with maps associated with Covid – 19 infections. The map is predominately blue in the North (for bad) red in the middle (really bad) and surprisingly green (ill) in the south?

The real situation, however, can be summarised in East versus West in world dynamics. The West predominately floundered in forming a common defence strategy. We sluggishly went into lockdown leaving the doors wide open. The East have a higher regard for authority and predominately abide by rules. They also had a regional strategy and a pre-prepared procedure to counter respiratory infections having lived through ‘Sars’ and ‘Mers’. In Singapore for example they had invested in research and treatment facilities in a National Hospital for Infectious Diseases.

They say that all civilisations and dynasties have finite life before collapsing. History shows this for example with the Romans, Venicians, Ottomans, Mongols, Spanish, Portugal and dear old Britain and its empire. Nothing lives for ever and the world changes shape and structure. The pandemic may have instigated an abrupt reset . When we switch it back on again the software may be completed rewritten and the ascent of the east will become the reality.

The meandering thoughts of someone with too much time on his hands. Tending to see the obscure and irrelevant in most events I have been forced to record this by family members as a means of diverting attention away from them. But I see their plan.
